Nestled in the foothills near the clear stream of the Abira River, surrounded by dense forest and blessed with the bounty of nature, Abira Town holds high potential and continues to grow. We strive hard to make our town safe and secure, bustling with excitement, full of various commercial and industrial activities, in harmony with nature, and pleasant and appealing.
Located in the central part of Hokkaido, Abira Town was born on March 27, 2006 with the incorporation of the former Hayakita Town, renowned for its thoroughbred breeding and dairy industry, and the former Oiwake Town known for its Asahi melon and strategic point for the former Japan National Railways.
To the west of town, the Maoi Hills (elevation 100 - 150 m) run north and south, and to the east, hilly terrain carries onwards to the Yubari Mountains.
Also, the Abira river flows from Oiwake in the north, southward to Hayakita, and flows onward into the Pacific Ocean at the eastern Tomakomai ? Yufutsu urban area.
Local geology is characterized by a covering of volcanic ash soil from Mt. Tarumae.
The yearly average air temperature of 6.5 degrees Celsius is warmer than Hokkaido’s average, with approximately 1,000 mm of precipitation per year.
Precipitation is concentrated from July to September, with this region having some of Hokkaido’s lowest levels of winter snow accumulation.
Abira Town is located in Hokkaido’s southwest region, contacting Yuni Town to the north, Atsuma Town to the east, Tomakomai City to the south, and Chitose City to the west.
With straight-line distances of about 50 km to Sapporo City and about 14 km to New Chitose Airport, this region benefits from very convenient transportation options.
